John Swinburne (my 10xGGrandfather) was born in 1612 and died on 15th February 1652. He
married three times. First he married Dorothy Heron, daughter of Cuthbert Heron of Chipchase.
Secondly he married Isabel Tempest, daughter of Sir Thomas Tempest and thirdly, Anne Blount,
daughter of Sir Charles Blount of Maple Durham, Oxfordshire and his wife Dorothy Clerke also of
Maple Durham. Anne Blount was Sir Johns mother. John was a staunch catholic and was very loyal
to Charles the first, so much so that he was promised a Baronetcy by the King. There is some
discrepancy regarding his date of death. It is often stated to be 15 February 1652 but in the website
about the history of Capheaton Hall, http://www.capheatonhall.co.uk/index/history it is stated that
John was murdered at Meldon in 1643, following a lunch party argument. This would make more
sense regarding other events such as Sir John receiving the Baronetcy if his father was still alive. In
this case Sir John must have been born 1644 at the latest. John also had two daughters by Isabel
Tempest, Isabel Swinburne, born about 1636 and Troth, born about 1638, both at Capheaton.
William Swinburne (my 11xGGrandfather) was born in 1575 at Capheaton and died on 6th

second wife. He had firstly married Margaret Haggerston, born 1428 in
Durham. This marriage allegedly took place in 1451 (this is according to all
references I have been able to find), but if Johns birthdate is correct then he would
have been 8 years old. John and Margaret had three children :-

August 1485 at Market Bosworth, Leicestershire in the battle of Bosworth Field.
