Sir   Thomas   Tempest ,   my   10xGGrandfather   was   born   in   1581   at   Stella   County   Durham   and   died on   18   August   1641.   He   was   the   second   Baronet   of   Stella.   He   married   Troth   Tempest,    daughter   of Sir   Richard   Tempest   of   Bracewell   and   his   wife   Elizabeth   Rodes.   Troth   was   born   Abt   1597.   Sir Thomas and Troth had eleven children :- Isabel    Tempest     was    born    in    1617    at    Stella,    County    Durham.    She    married    in    1631    to    John Swinburne, born 1612 at Capheaton, in 1631. They had three children, Isabell   Swinburne,   born   1636   at   Capheaton,   died   1695.   She   married   John   Forcer   in   1665. They had one son, John Forcer, born 1666, died 1725 Troth Swinburne, born 1638 at Capheaton. She married Henry Grey (1634 - 1709) Sir John Swinburne, born 1650 at Capheaton, died 19 June 1706. Sir   Richard   Tempest    was   born   in   1620   at   Stella,   County   Durham,   died   1662.   He   was   the   third Baronet   of   Stella.   On   9   October   1641   he   married   Sarah   Campbell   at   Seven   Oaks,   Kent.   Sarah   was born in 1623 in London and died young on 1 June 1644. They had three children Nicholas, born 1641 at Stella. Sir   Thomas   Tempest,   born   Abt   1642   at   Gargrave,   Yorkshire.   He   was   the   fourth   Baronet   of Stella   and   married   Alice   Hodgson,   born   1641   at   Hepborn,   County   Durham,   in   1667.   They had   four   children,   Francis,   born   1668,   Troth,   born   1672,      Mary,   born   1674   and   Jane,   born 1679. Richard, Tempest born 1644 at Stella. Elizabeth Tempest was born in 1622 at Stella. Nicholas    Tempest    was    born    in    1623    at    Stella    and    died    on    28    February    1666.    He    married Margaret   Swinburne   on   11   December   1664   and   they   had   one   daughter,   Troth,   born   1656   in   Ryton, County Durham. Dorothy Tempest was born on 10 July 1628 at Stella. Thomas   Tempest    was   born   on   22   May   1630   at   Stella.   He   died   in   1679.   In   1661   he   married   Jane Metham, born 1636 at Metham, Yorkshire and they had three children Thomas Tempest, born 1662 at Stella, died 27 June 1691. Sir Nicholas Tempest, born 1664 at Stella, died 31 May 1742. He married Anne Price. Richard Tempest, born 1666 at Stella, died 1742. Catherine Tempest was born in 1632 at Stella. She married Bryan Salvin in 1658 at Stella. Henry Tempest was born on 21 October 1633 at Stella and died in 1691. Edward Tempest was born on 15 June 1634 at Stella and died 13 March 1640, aged 6 years. Troth Tempest was born in 1636 at Stella. She married John Kennet in 1657. Mary Tempest was born in 1637 at Stella. She married John Thornton in 1656

Sir Nicholas Tempest, my 11xGGrandfather was born Abt 1553 at Stella Hall, County Durham and died on 26 Mar 1626 at Ryton, County Durham. He was the first Baronet of Stella. He married Isabel Lambton, daughter of Robert Lambton, in 1576 at Stella. Isabel was born 1552 at Durham and died on 20 December 1623, again at Durham. They had nine children :- Catherine Tempest was born 1580 at Newcastle upon Tyne. Sir Thomas Tempest was born 1581 at Stella, died 18 August 1641. He married Troth Tempest and they had eleven children. (See 10xGGrandparents) William Tempest was born 1582 at Stella. Isabel Tempest was born 1583 at Stella and died in 1663 at York. She married Sir Bertram Bulmer on 30 July 1600. Sir Bertram was born in 1579 at Durham and died in 1638 at Durham. He appears to have had a busy life. They had fifteen children William Bulmer, born 1601 at Wilton, Fairfield, County Durham, died 23 January 1682 at Durham. He married Dorothy Sayer in 1625 and they had eight children Anthony Bulmer, born 1602 at Ryton, County Durham, died 27 April 1683 at Esh, County Durham. He married twice, firstly to Priscilla Hopewood on 29 June 1625. They had one daughter, Diana, born 1626 at Esh.  Sedcondly he married Mary Wyvill in 1629. They had three sons, William, born 1630, died 1710, John, born 1632 and Ancotel, born 1634, died 1710. John Bulmer, born 1603 at Botterby, County Durham, died 2 February 1678. George Bulmer, born 1604 at Hett, County Durham, died Abt 1671 Nicholas Bulmer, born 1605 at Ryton, died 14 October 1614, aged 9 years. No further records. Margaret Tempest was born in 1592 at Stella. She married Gilbert Errington. No further records. Jane Tempest was born on 2nd February 1593 at Stella. She married Thomas Chaytor. Thomas Tempest, my 12xGGrandfather was born in 1530 at Stanley, County Durham and died in 1578. He married Elizabeth Place, daughter of Rowland Place, on 2nd February 1551. Elizabeth was born at Hanaby, Yorkshire in 1532. They had seven children :- Sir Nicholas Tempest was born Abt 1553 at Stella, County Durham. See my 11xGGrandfather. Alice Tempest was born in 1555. John Tempest was born in 1560. Anne Tempest was born in 1560. Robert Tempest was born in 1563. Eleanor Tempest was born Abt 1565, died 1590 at Chester, County Durham. She married Ralph Lambton on 26 February 1586 at Chester Le Street, County Durham. Ralph was born in 1554 at Chester and died 10th December 1593, also at Chester. They had three children Margaret Lambton, born 1588 at Chester Le Street William Lambton, born 1589 at Chester Le Street, died 2 July 1664 at Marston Moor, Yorkshire. Alice Lambton, born 1591 at Chester Le Street Rowland Tempest was born Abt 1566. He married Barbara Calverley. No further records.

Nicholas Tempest, my 13xGGrandfather was born in 1486 at Stella and died in 1539. He married Agnes Marley in 1529. Agnes was born in 1508 at Gibside, County Durham and died in 1560 at Durham. They had four children. Eleanor Tempest was born Abt 1528 at Stella. Thomas Tempest was born in 1530 at Stella and died in 1578. He married Elizabeth Place. See above - my 12xGGrandparents. Margaret Tempest was born in 1532 at Stella. Alice Tempest was born in 1532 at Stella. Alice was married three times. I can’t get any wedding dates so am not sure of the order. Her three husbands were Christopher Place, Walter Strickland (1516 - 8 April 1569) and Thomas Boynton.

Robert Tempest my 14xGGrandfather was born in 1450 at Holmside, County Durham, and died in 1504 at Lambton, County Durham. He married Ann Lambton in 1475. Ann was a daughter of Thomas Lambton and was born in 1446 at Durham and died in 1500 at Lambton. They had nine children :- Rowland Tempest was born in 1476 at Bracewell, Yorkshire and died in 1522. He married twice, firstly to Anne Radcliffe, daughter of Sir Edward Radcliffe, no children found. Secondly he married Margaret Swinburne, born 1486 at Capheaton. There is a possibility that he married a third time to Catherine Welles, born 1442 at Welles, Lincolnshire, died 8 November 1505, also at Welles, but I have not been able to verify this. He and Margaret Swinburne had four children, Alice, born 1500, Grace, born 1506, Elizabeth, born 1512 and Anne, born 1515, died 1580, all born at Holmside, County Durham. Jane Tempest was born in 1477 at Holmside. Thomas Tempest was born in 1478 at Holmside and died in 1543 at Brough, Yorkshire. Isabelle Tempest was born in 1479 at Holmside. Margaret Tempest was born in 1482 at Holmside. John Tempest was born in 1484 at Holmside. Nicholas Tempest was born in 1486 at Holmside and died 1539 at Durham. Rowland Tempest was born in 1424 at Holmside, County Durham and died in 1467. He married  Isabel Elmeden in 1446. Isabel was also born in 1424 at Embleton, County Durham and died on 10 February 1464 at Durham. They had three children :- Rowland Tempest was born in 1448 at Holmside and died in 1504. Gilbert Middleton, born 1480 at Silksworth, died 2 August 1549 at Spofforth, Yorkshire. Gilbert married twice, firstly to Ellen Pickering, born 1470 in Yorkshire. They had one child, Margaret Middleton, born 1500 in Westmoreland, died 1544 at Hansfeld, Lancashire. His second wife was Alice Riddell, born 1484 at Newcastle Upon Tyne, died 1576 at Tichborne, Hampshire.They married in 1505 and had seven children, all born at Newcastle Upon Tyne, Launcelot, born 1506, Thomas, born 1510, Gilbert, born 1512, Elizabeth, born 1516, Nicholas, born 1518, Leonard, born 1520 and Ellen, born 1522. Ellen died on 29 August 1623 at Essenden, Hertfordshire, aged 101 years. Mabel Middleton, born 1481 at Middleton. Sir Peter Middleton, born 1483 at Middleton, died 1535 at Cambridge. John Middleton, born 1485 at Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, died 1535 also at Bottisham.

Sir William Tempest, my 16xGGrandfather was born in 1360 at Studley, Yorkshire. He married Alianore (sometimes Eleanor) Washington, daughter of Sir William Washington in 1400 at Washington, County Durham. They had four children :- Isabel Tempest was born in 1405 at Studley, Yorkshire. She married Richard Nolan. Dionysia Tempest was born in 1408 at Bracewell, Yorkshire and died in March 1452 in Yorkshire. She married William Malory and they had thirteen children John Malory, born 1427 at Hutton, Yorkshire, died 1475 at Conyers, Yorkshire. He married Isabel Hamerton. Christopher Malory, born 1429 at Studley, Yorkshire, died 1487. Ela Malory, born 1430 at Gillingham, Dorset, died 1465 at Gillingham. She married Thomas Greene who, in some reports was executed in the Tower of London on trumped up charges of treason. I have not been able to verify this although a Thomas Greene was executed in 1506. He may have been from a different generation. It is also reported that Thomas was a grandfather of Katherine Parr, the last wife of Henry the Eighth, but again I have not been able to verify this. Isabel Malory, born 1445 at Studley. Elizabeth Malory, born 1447 at Studley. Johanna Malory, born 1449 at Studley. William Tempest was born in 1414 at Studley and died on 20 December 1443. He married Elizabeth Montgomerie, daughter of Sir John Montgomerie, in 1440. They had one son, John, who died in infancy in 1450. Rowland Tempest was born in 1442 at Holmside and died in 1467. Sir Richard Tempest, my 17xGGrandfather, was born in 1309 at Studley, Yorkshire and died in 1379 at Ripon, Yorkshire. He was Sheriff of Roxburghshire and Berwickshire and was married twice. He married Joan Hertford in 1340 and had one daughter, Catherine Tempest, born in 1340 at Bracewell, Yorkshire. He married my 17xGGrandmother, Isabel Bourne in 1355. Isabel was born in 1336 at Studley and died on 13 August 1421 at Studley. They had five children :- Peter Tempest was born in 1356 at Studley and died in 1361 aged 5 years. Sir Richard Tempest was born in 1356 at Bracewell and died on 30 September 1428 at Wakefield. John Tempest was born in 1360 and died on 16 February 1389. He married Mary Clitheroe in 1388. Mary was a daughter of Hugh Clitheroe, born 1346 at Wimpole, Cambridgeshire and Isabel de Gras, born 1348 at Wimpole. Sir William Tempest was born in 1360 at Studley and died in July 1441. Sir John Tempest, my 18xGGrandfather, was born on 24 August 1283 at Bracewell and died in 1359, also at Bracewell. He married Margaret Holand in 1310. Margaret was born in 1287 at Bracewell and died in 1329 at Skipton. They had three children :- Sir Richard Tempest was born in 1309 at Studley and died in 1379 at Ripon. See above - my 17xGGrandfather. Sir John Tempest was born in 1311 at Bracewell and died in 1351 at Skipton. He married Katherine Sherburne in 1333. Katherine was born in 1312 at Blackburn, Yorkshire and died in 1364 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. They had one son, Richard Tempest, born 1334 at Bracewell and died in 1386, also at Bracewell. In 1355 he married Marie Mary Talbot who was born in 1336 in Yorkshire and died in 1390 at Bracewell. Peter Tempest was born in 1317 at Wensley, Yorkshire and died on 30th October 1361. He married Mary Douglas.

Richard Tempest, my 19xGGrandfather, was born in 1263 at Bracewell and died at Wakefield on 29 September 1297. I can’t find any information about his wife. The only child I can find is my 18xGGrandfather, Sir John Tempest, details above.

Sir Roger Tempest, my 20xGGrandfather was born in 1242 at Bracewell and died in 1288 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He married Alice Waddington, daughter of Walter Waddington, in 1262 at Bracewell. Alice was born in 1243 at Waddington, Yorkshire and died on 8 March 1302 at Bracewell. They had two sons :- Richard Tempest was born in 1263 at Bracewell and died on 29th September 1297 at Wakefield. See above 19xGGrandfather. Nicholas Tempest was born in 1265 at Bracewell and died on 8th March 1301.

Sir Richard Tempest, my 21xGGrandfather was born in 1221 at Bracewell and died Abt 1268 at Bracewell. I have not been able to find any details of his wife but on Rhoades Ancestry Tree, owned by jrandsr, his wife is listed as Alice Mauleverer, marrying in 1253 at Bracewell and they had two sons Sir Roger Tempest was born in 1242 at Bracewell and died in 1288 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. See above, 20xGGrandparents. John Tempest was born in 1244.

Richard Tempest, my 22xGGrandfather, was born in 1200 at Bracewell and  died in 1273. He married Elena de Tong Abt 1220 at Bracewell. Elena was born in 1201 at Bracewell and died in 1273 at Bracewell. They had three sons :- Sir Richard Tempest was born in 1221 at Bracewell and died Abt 1268. See above 21xGGrandparents. William Tempest was born in 1225 at Bracewell and died Abt 1268 at Bracewell. He married twice, firstly in 1246 to Dionysia Horton, with whom he had one son, Peter, born 1256 at Horton, Yorkshire. In 1267 he married Avice de Bushall. Thomas Tempest was born in 1230 at Bracewell.

Roger Tempest, my 23xGGrandfather was born in 1174 at Bracewell and died in 1209, also at Bracewell. He married Alice Rilleston who died in 1222 at Bracewell. They married in 1199 at Bracewell and had six children :- Sir Richard Tempest was born in 1200 and died in 1273. See above, 22 xGGrandfather. William Tempest was born in 1203 at Bracewell. Roger Tempest was born in 1205. Ellias Tempest was born in 1207. Alice Tempest was born on 2nd March 1209. Dionysia Tempest was born on 1st January 1210.

Richard Tempest, my 24xGGrandfather was born in 1148 at Bracewell and died in 11778 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He married Alice de Meschine in 1173 at Bracewell. Alice was born in 1152 at Bracewell and died in 1222 at Studley, Yorkshire. I can only find one child, Roger Tempest, my 23xGGrandfather, born in 1174.

Roger Tempest, my 25xGGrandfather, was born in 1118 at Bracewell and died in 1181 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He married in 1147 at Bracewell. I have not been able to find his wifes name and could only find one child, Richard Tempest, my 24xGGrandfather.

Archil Tempest, my 26xGGrandfather, was born in 1087 at Bracewell and died in 1181 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He married in 1117 at Bracewell but I have not been able to find the name of his wife. I have only been able to find one child, Roger Tempest, my 25xGGrandfather.

Ulchil Tempest, my 27xGGrandfather, was born in 1062 at Bracewell and died in 1107 in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He married in 1086 at Bracewell but I have not been able to find the name of his wife. I could only find one child, my 26xGGrandfather, Ulchil Tempest. It is worth noting that Ulchil is one of 268,435,456 27xGGrandfathers. (See How Many in Extras)
